Jerry Garcia Band 15-Show East Coast November 1993 Tour Grabs $4 Million

Happy Birthday Jerry #77.  I'll hang with you in about 20.  Weir will still be playing 250 nights at year then.

Typically when I saw the Jerry Garcia Band the audience size was maybe a few hundred and some times 2 thousand or so.  Just released Garcia Live 11 id from a bigger era

But late era Jerry Garcia Band grew to arena size, specifically in the three giant East Coast tours in September 1989, November 1991 and the biggest one he ran in November 1993 when 15 shows averaged more than 11,000 tickets sold per gig for a cool $4 million in gross.  Knowing Jerry you probably netted $2 million and split it evenly with the band. :)  JGMF has some very cool detail to the 1993 tour including http://jgmf.blogspot.com/search/label/1993 for everything and what I think is the coolest item the November 1993 tour, the tourbook http://jgmf.blogspot.com/2018/01/the-hypothesis-is-wong-long-live.html  This thing is way cool.

Garcia Live Volume 11 is a two-CD live album by the Jerry Garcia Band. It contains the complete concert recorded on November 11, 1993 at the Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island. It was released on July 12, 2019.^[1][2][3][4]

This show was part of what turned out to be the last East Coast tour by the Jerry Garcia Band.^[1] The album marks the first release of a Garcia Band concert recorded after 1991. It features the band's long-running musical lineup of Jerry Garcia(guitar, vocals), Melvin Seals (keyboards), John Kahn (bass), David Kemper (drums), Jaclyn LaBranch (vocals), and Gloria Jones (vocals).

The First Ride The Tiger Shows, Oakland August 4-5, 1979

My first Grateful Dead shows ever in the Bay Area were #33 and #34 out of 80 on August 4 and 5, 1979 at the debut of the Oakland Auditorium.  This was also the show where Jerry Garcia switched guitars to Tiger (see https://liveforlivemusic.com/features/a-brief-history-of-jerry-garcias-five-most-well-known-guitars/)

On night one, we got the very first Althea  and first Lost Sailor which slipped into Deal.

August 5 give us the second Althea and Lost Sailor, prior to the invention of Saint of Circumstance. it was still Heaven Fight Tiger, ie Lost Sailor>Althea>Promise Land. This night also gave me a view of Hamza Al-Din

While these aren\t my favorite shows of the 1970's or even 1979, they were still fun and I was rocking the Dead in the Bay Area finally, which I would do another 35+ times.

1979 through 1990- TIGER
August 4th 1979 at The Oakland Auditorium Tiger debuts
        
   "Tiger" (pearl coverplate) Description: Seven years to make, ebony fingerboard on maple neck, an arched cocobola top and back, vermilion neck and body striping, and W. flamed-maple body core. Meticulous scrolled inlay finger position markers and hand-crafted brass hardware; Strat approach, but with one DiMarzio SDS-1 single coil and two DiMarzio Super 2 humbuckers that were easily removed 'cause Jerry thought their ouput weakened after a year or two. Also had Jerry's effects bypass loop (he knew his electronics!), as well as an op-amp buffer/amp to maintain the high end during effects "on". Result: Garcia's favorite guitar for the next ll years & most played.  Jerry strapped this heavy 13 1/2-pound guitar for 11 years.

The OOPs Concert: Amsterdam, the Ones That Got Away, October 15-16, 1981

From September 30 to October 19, the Grateful Dead spend three weeks in Europe for their second trip that year, having played 5 shows in the UK and Germany at the end of March.  These were the band first trip to Europe since 1974, although they had cancelled a couple of London gig during the Egypt shows in September 1978.  They wouldn't come back until 1990.

In the Netherlands, the Dead had played on both May 10 and 11, 1972, playing Amsterdam and then Rotterdam. These 1981 shows are the last shows the Grateful Dead ever played in the Netherlands.
Apparently 1974 shows in Amsterdam were cancelled according to Steve Brown in David Gans and Blair Jackson Dream book.

So as legend has it, the Dead had some time off between gigs and on October 11, Bobby and Jerry decided to play a few acoustic tunes at the Melkweg and then came back for two nearly full Dead shows on October 15 and 16.   Most of these shows are mana from Heaven, especially the last night on Bobby's 34th borthday where they played a bunch of tunes like Lovelight, Gloria and their only Hully Gully. We can both listen and see this show.

Famed Dead photographer Bob Minkin took many of the pictures on this page and even wrote the fab review in the Taping Compendium Vol. 2. If I were you, I'd buy Live Dead, Bob's great book of photos with tremendous coverage not only of these Melkweg shows but the entire October 1981 European tour.

Since only May 6, May 19, and December 9 have full show official release, maybe its time for October 16, 1981 to be released. So this is my latest guess for a show getting the CD treatment.
