Garcia said “We were great for seconds on end.” I was lucky to see Jerry play for about 1,000,000 seconds exactly. Thanks for your 1,000,000 views here . Dave Davis wrote this blog for 500 posts and 5 years from 2015 to 2019. Contact me at twitter @gratefulseconds

Great Tale of Jerry Garcia for $1 at Concord September 7, 1981

Cool shirt Jerry

I could never write about this show that I attended (a busy few weeks with Phil playing with Jerry, this show, and first three shows at the Greek) better than Lost Live Dead.

February 17, 1979: The Dead Rock As We Watch the End of the Keith and Donna Era

40 Years Ago this month, Keith and Donna Godchaux played their last ever show with the Grateful Dead. Their nearly eight run with the band encompassed the golden era of the band, about half in the one drummer Monster years of 1972-1974 and the marvelous 1976-1977 run as well.  But towards the end, the magic was escaping and off-campus activity was increasing (see Fire in the Motel night) .

Obviously New Year's 1978 was magic, but towards the end we the fans were not feeling it as much Utica, January 14, 1979).  But as Mike Dolgushkin says above, this show shined, despite the move to the much larger Oakland Coliseum (foreshadowing the era of stadium Dead to come in the late 1980's). this is a top shelf show (ranked third for the year in Deadbase 11).

A Beautiful Mind: Setlist Schematics Reads Jerry Garcia's

This morning I unwrapped a very nice present with the discovery of  Setlist Schematics      @phishmaps, who Jesse Jarnow tells me is the work of Hartford Courant's Michael Hamad (see below for nice 2015 work of his).

As a person very average in understanding TAB and bare bones in reading music, this intrigues me so much.  What allows me to read this beautiful new language is a total understanding of Stella Blue, from the first time I heard it on Wake of the Flood in 1974 (late I know) or saw it at the Palladium in the middle of St Stephen on April 30, 1977.  I can just sense and feel what this means.  I feel the one four five and the halfling of beats from four to two to one. it's beautiful math because Jerry has a beautiful mind.

This is another outstanding moment in the history of the Hartford Courant and the Grateful Dead.

Here's are three more from the 21 shows the Dead played there with outstanding Hartford news coverage:

Dillon 1972

Colt Park 1976 (my third show)

Hartford Civic Center 1977 (my 7th show)

Here's the first tape of the year and this the first Dark Star available from 1969

Here's jesse's take from twitter and below is the student's POV.
I'm just adding the student review of the show.

80 Shows, 60 Years, 1959-2019

My first set two June 9, 1976.

So I turn 60 on January 18.

From 1959-1974, I was a kid.

From 1975-1989, I saw 80 Grateful Dead shows for almost exactly one million grateful seconds.

From 1990-2004, I been balling a shiny black steel jack-hammer and been chippin' up rocks for the great highway

From 2005-2019, I rediscovered the Grateful Dead and listened  to them 20 million grateful seconds
and wrote 424 blog posts here

Thanks for reading my fan site, it's my pleasure to write it. And so fun.
